Re: Gardasil. I, for a very personal reason called a vaccine killed my immune system, shudder every time a drug is recommended for *everyone*. According to the article, the drug has only been administered since 2006...that's two years. Which means that studies of long term effects cannot have been studied across races, ages, etc. And I just have general issues with drug commercials. Drugs are not food, they are not something you decide you need. Yes, some people have moronic doctors *cough*me*cough* but wouldn't an unbiased information source be somewhat better?

Yeah, exactly. It's been out for how long? And it's being touted as a YOU MUST DO THIS med? No freaking way.

I'm not saying ban it. Just stop treating it like it's the second coming of the cure for smallpox.

Okay, I realize that I might be biased in the opposite direction, but I kinda refuse to take medication that has not been on the market for oh, two, three decades. Something that's been out for two years and is being sold as the next Ibuprofen? Um...no.

I was forced to get a vaccine for mumps/rubella when I went to college to prevent an outbreak. I do know there was an outbreak a few years prior, which is why they made it mandatory. But I was in an age group where it would have side effects for women and they didn't tell me the risk until after it was given too me. I happened to develop a mild case (low fever, sore joints), but the fact I wasn't informed until after the fact still blows my mind. Some places want to make gardasil mandatory now? In young girls? No way. This "Oh, well some women suffered adverse affect and... oh yeah... some died. But you know, at acceptable numbers" shit needs to stop. I really don't want to end up at the mercy of pharmaceuticals and their "humanitarian" efforts to make this a safer world, for just a low co-pay cost and maybe a deductible... if you have insurance.

Not as many have pointed out how bad it is that the 9 year old that they showed was given the lesson that all she was good for was looking cute. (Not to mention how she's now been tainted as the lip-synching faker.)

That is an excellent point. I was thinking about it earlier and I *haven't* seen many references to that aspect...I wonder if it's because she *is* cute, that it's supposed to be ok, because she's still got that and so *her* potential humiliation doesn't matter?

=( I missed the Ren Fair this year for the first time in forever. I'm not sure how to handle the knowledge that there were be no more Puke & Snot. What can you do with just Snot?

There's a lot to say for thinking about steampunk and the ugly imperial antecedents it refers to -- and you're right -- but god, sometimes I just want to be allowed to like clothes. Without having to think about it.
