So here's the thing: christinenj got me into using Google Reader. One of the features of said reader is sharing items from your feeds with your Google Reader friends, complete with comments if you were so inclined. Naturally I can't keep my mouth shut on much, and really the only downside to this system that I have found is that all y'all aren't on Google ( Read more... )

I hear ya. Much like with the gut-wrenchingly disgusting racism that gets leveled at Barak (and the combo of racism and misogyny that gets aimed at Michelle). You want to think we've come so far, and yet...

*headdesks at the Roman Catholic Church. Again*

Dudes. Just. Dudes. Please don't use that excuse and embarrass me to be a lapsed Catholic again, please? I just-- I don't-- I 'm not a Biblical scholar, but defining the 12 Apostles by their gender ,and leaving Mary, Mary, Martha, Thecla, and various others off the list, I just...

*flails with flaily frustrated embarrassed rage*

And they wonder why I don't wanna go to church.

Ohhhh, but we can't all be one unified BIG CHURCH again if we can't all agree on everything! Never mind if that's even a good goal! Never mind if that's what's best for everyone! Never mind if multiplicity of viewpoints on how religion should be handled in this world is actually maybe useful!!

Never mind that in 1968 the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church lifted an excommunication that lasted 700 years! It's still a viable threat! It's still something people shoudl WORRY about, no, it doesn't make us look simultaneously VENGEFUL and LAME. NOOOOO. Can't have women priests! BAD!ad;lfjdafdlfkdjfadl;kgjalkfd alk lko

KEEEEY SMAASHITY!

Well yanno they are just so OVERRUN with priests right now that clearly they couldn't POSSIBLY allow women in because there's just NO ROOM FOR THEM IN THIS CURRENTLY LIVE AND VIBRANT CHURCH.

GAH!

The Catholic religion is a wonderful thing that people screwed up. Where's Martin Luther when you need him?

"Oh, you mean our religion which we separated from yours on purpose isn't making you happy with how we handle things? Wow, we are going to lose so much sleep over that. Really. Honest. Cake?"

I don't really have anything to say here (although thank you for all the interesting links) beyond this:

I'm glad I could bring a little cheer into your day. And that there are some out there who find my obsessive need to share interesting =)

Bring it on, Vatican. The more of this crap you pull, the less of your crap the rest of the world will be willing to take.

Re the razor blades in the undies, I'd be all for more of that sort of shock tactic, but you can't JUST shock, you also have to tell people what you're referring to and how they can help. I just wish we could get people to care about ALL child genital mutilation--it can't be excused by culture, religion, clean equipment, a child's supposedly different experiences of pain, etc.

Well for me too it was who are you shocking and why? Why does making women flinch in a dressing room help the cause? Don't we have enough to flinch about?

How do people approve stuff like that? How does it make them go "Yeah, this says lipstick to me."
