His room is generically decorated, to a point. Large bed, table, chair, a bookshelf to hold a few changes of clothing and some books. He may have been coming here for years, but it will never fully be home. The bed covers and curtains overlooking the lake are various patterns of plaid, though, so there is some hint of his personality

Which is why she promptly ignores the gesture and plops down next to him and looks up expectantly. It's that particular 'Well, I'm listening' look of hers.

"I should probably start at the beginning, and just with the basics." He takes a breath, mind fuzzing ever so slightly at her scent, and occupies his gaze with the floorboards. "My birth name is Kal-El and I was born on a planet twenty three galaxies away called Krypton. It no longer exists, and hasn't since I was a baby."

Sure, her mom died of lung cancer, but what's she really supposed to say when the man she loves is a few thousand--maybe million?--lightyears away from where his home used to be, and it's gone? Lois has enough trouble as it is sometimes keeping her foot out of her mouth, but a bombshell like that? Yeah, that's hard to figure out.
Which is probably why her response, after a moment, is "Oh, is that why you wanted to inflict that on poor Shelby?"

"It was a thought. Anyway, Krypton was destroyed partially in civil war, and partially because our sun was very old and turning supernova. My father was a scientist and built a lifeboat for me, in hopes that I would escape our race's fate and make it to Earth safely. Obviously, I did."
This next part is a little harder.
"Unfortunately, my arrival on Earth included the first meteor shower."
