Budget meeting: with proper ballast adjustments, the ship should stay afloat

Feb 25, 2009 09:29

After 3 grueling hours listening to the study session presentation, it appears that I - and my co-workers - still have jobs.

There was no great news, but the bad news could have been much worse.

I think I'll have a glass of wine, eat a sandwich, and breathe now.

They are! I'm grateful that my city has been conservative with the monies. It's helping a lot of people be employed right now.

That is good news...! I didn't think about the fact that you were a state employee. *phew*

Hi, Elissa!

Technically, I don't work for the state - so Govenor Arnold can't mandate anything for me. But given that we get money from the state, along with city tax revenues, there is some serious re-adjusting going on right now... and people in nearby places have not all been as lucky.

Thank you. I am very grateful.

I think of Michigan and Detroit whenever people here begin to see that we're not immune to recession. For a long time, I kept encountering the perception that trouble was something happening elsewhere... somewhere with "more corruption". Reality is now settling in out here.
