so. my double degree application just got approved. i found out about 20 minutes after having a huge bust-up with my dad, during which he employed the following arguments (amongst others): because i wake up later than 7 in the morning is a sign that i am not disciplined enough to live in a foreign country; that there are racial riots in australia ( Read more... )

ummm i wouldn't call it racial riots.. basically what happened was this indian student got attacked/stabbed on a train and so the other indian students were really enraged abt it and started protesting in the city for more security and stuff like that. the government are totally on their side, so there's really not much to worry about. you can tell your dad that :P

and in uni, you'll rarely have to get up any earlier than 7, unless you stay like an hour away from campus or smth.

sigh bb, i hope your dad sees sense. but i know you'll be fabulous regardless of where you study! :) have fun at sentosa!

lol yeah i was all "wtf that was not even close to a riot" at him but he pulled the don't-talk-back card :P but going to sentosa definitely helped - frolicking in the sea! (which was a little dubious considering we were within sight of major shipping lanes.)

i was reading an article on how melbourne has become the swine flu capital of the world (CONGRATULATIONS, DEAR MELBOURNE, HOW I LOVE YOU SO) and there was a link to this article which i thought was entirely appropriate. perhaps print it out and "accidentally" leave it lying on the dining table or smth? ;)

UGH. :( This just seems to me a HUGER impetus to go! If you are stuck in that house for the next four years I will end up causing grievous bodily harm to some very illogical parentals. Is there some kind of financial aid scheme that will help you along? Is your mum willing to pay part of it for you first? Worse comes to worst, defer your Auckland place and then re-apply for scholarships and grants next year; if you get one, then you can probably still make it for your programme.

NZ is hardly a foreign country!!! >:(

Hope Sentosa is going well! I am babysitting my little cousin. :D
