With regards to the fish... if you don't feed them, they die. Eventually you can "charm" your yeoman into feeding them for you.

She offered to feed them for me before I even had any.

That's how smoove I am.

I am gobsmacked. I always have a hell of a time getting her to feed those. (I play a female Shepard, but I don't think it matters.)

Fallout 3, despite its occasional bugs, is one of my absolute favorite games of all time for all the reasons you just cited... the sheer size and depth of the world you can explore, the vast number of nooks and crannies you can sneak into and loot, and the refreshingly opt-in nature of the main quests.

Yeah, it's a game that lets you play "what's over here", which is awesome.

It's like a vacation with firefights.
