Back in town

I'd been out of town for a while, doing a shopping expideition for the gallery. Buffy had school when I left. I'd called earlier in the day, on Thanksgiving, and found out that Buffy, Mr. Giles and her friends were having Thanksgiving at Giles'. Okay, so I felt a little guilty. I heard the sound of someone trying to contact us. The telephone's shrill tone filled the room with a blessed sound. I felt relieved- almost as if someone who had left us was trying to reach out and contact us. It felt so very good to be with Willow. There was you, and there was whoever there was on the phone.

I looked to Willow to see if she wanted to pick up the phone and then I picked it up and pressed it to my ear, but left the earpiece angled so that she could also listen as well.

"Hello?"I heard the phone pick up. Odd.

I covered the mouth piece of the telephone with my hand and looked over to Willow.

It's Joyce I mouthed slowly to her.

I was most curious in wondering why Joyce would be calling at this time.

I squeezed the hand set of the phone in my hand and lifted the speaker of the phone up to my ear again.

"Ah, yes. Well. Ahem. Rupert is not here with us right now."

I looked around the room and focused on Willow.

Perhaps she had something she would like to add.

I gave her a small smile and continued to talk.

"I believe that they have all... discombulated... ah... we are trying to solve that now, but in lieu of a alternative means of... well... solving this... ah... well... do you still have that hot chocolate of yours?"

"Dicom..." I knew this voice, but not well. Wesley something. He'd been here for a while, when Faith was with us. He was supposed to be her watcher, and that went just great.

"Willow is with you? I don't understand, what is going on?" I listened a little more.

I heard fear. I knew the sound, because I'd made it so many times myself. Something was very wrong.

"With, or without marshmellows?"
