My IBS Story

Aug 13, 2012 01:52

I was first diagnosed with IBS when I was about 17 years old, although it probably went on before that. I have been back to see various doctors a few times since, always with similar complaints. I broke down one time and told one doctor that I couldn’t take it anymore, and he said, "Well, we know it can’t be anything really nasty, because you haven ( Read more... )

Aye, I know quite a few people with UC or Crohn's, which are far more severe than the IBS we suffer from, but in those cases, most veg are fibre-rich foods are prohibited because of the body's difficulty in digesting them. It makes healthy eating a real challenge, but it does reduce the tummy beef by miles. I personally haven't had problems with veg or starches, but anything's worth a try! And lots of starches is never good for the waistline in general. If only you could convince my love of potatoes and pasta. :(

Yeah I'm glad I don't have anything as bad as those two conditions. Must be agony, as standard IBS is bad enough! I still have to have a lot of fibre though and am currently eating a lot of broccoli and cauliflower. We shall see! I has my notebook! :D

Haha, as your username implies! It takes a while to get used to being low carb, but you find alternatives. Like, I was really craving salty chips the other night when I was drunk, but I was really, really good and just had some strong cheese and walnuts!

Aww I strange enjoyed reading your story and how it has a happy ending! It's nice to see that there is always a fix.

Someone I know well was diagnosed with UC last year (despite the doctors being stupid and not listening to them when they said that's what they thought it was) and it was insane how restricting it was. Thankfully they have meds and are remission but they can't eat things like fibre and fruit/veg cause that's apparently bad for them.

I find that mental since that's what people bang on about for eating healthy.

I've been mostly paleo since the beginning of the year... and it's awesome. I do have a piece of toast, and pasta and beer and potatoes here and there.. but I know its okay as long as I don't reintroduce it to every
meal. since I've been traveling in Europe my stomach had to get used to all the grain again :/ but with eating that much protein, you do have to exercise or not eat too much of it to help balance. you'll find what works for you :) do you think it might be more
of a grain allergy or celiac disease?
