The blood remembers.

Seems an unnecessarily cryptic line with which to open our little parley, does it not? But I can tell right off, you're the sort of lot what's always hungry for cryptic lines. You feed on platitudes masquerading as portents, and when these are delivered in as sinister an accent as mine, you can hardly resist a nibble. Afore you know it, you've swallowed the bait whole, only to feel the hook's barb lodge somewhere between gullet and gut. And then a gent's naught to do but reel you in.

Not that I'm certain I want to be reeling in anything hereabouts, as the quality of flesh in this particular pool of brine remains dubious at best. But I digress.

The blood remembers. It's a rather dramatic pronouncement, to be sure, and I don't doubt there are those amongst you with the sand to mock me for it. Mayhap you've been jaded by the well-documented tendency of some scalawags--I'll not be naming names just yet--to make reference to all things sanguinary: pirate-in-the-blood, blood-to-be-paid, begun by blood, by blood undone, and, of course, bloody pirates! But there's more truth in those three quick words than in most others you might string together. Though unless you've done what I've done--ventured onto shores what sport teeth like Hell's jagged maw, and sailed waters bearing the reflection of your own moonlit bones, for starters--I really don't expect you to be capable of comprehending that truth.

Nonetheless, I'm willing to educate you, assuming you're willing to be educated (and especially if you are not). After all, I suspect you've heard enough tales which center on everyone's blood but mine. I think it's high time you saw for yourself what Barbossa's blood remembers; and I assure you, it be rather more than an ante-mortem gush.
