Terriers is awesome! Yay, someone else who is watching it! I gave it a try because Tim Minear is a writer/executive producer on it, and I have a certain amount of trust in his skillz. I hope it gets more buzz going with an audience, because it sure deserves it. I know it doesn't look super sexy like some secret agent show or whatever, but it's well-written, well-acted, humorous, layered and just plain good on all fronts so far.
I didn't even know Tim was involved! Well, that's yet another reason for me to love it.
What we need to do is get some icons or fanfic going on it. I'm trying to talk it up as much as I can, because I already love it, but it's so low key (and on FX) that a lot of people miss it.
I saw The Wire before True Blood so was dumbfounded by Chris as Andy Bellefleur. He's an amazingly versatile actor, obviously. :D Likewise with James Ransome, who plays the rather annoying Ziggy, as Person in Generation Kill.
Omar is my favourite character in The Wire, the writers treat the character well and Michael K Williams perfect in the part. He has a very effective cameo, too, in the movie adaptation of The Road.
Actors must be very gratified when given such juicy roles and good writing.
The show is really capturing my imagination. Season 2 was so heartbreaking and full of incredible performances. I thought it was interesting to get out of the straight ghetto/drug game for a while and see some working class life and crime, which brought out great characters like Frank and Ziggy Zabatka.
Which isn't to say that Season 3 isn't interesting so far -- watching Barksdale and Stringer come unraveled; the whole concept of Hamsterdam; the BS politics behind the police department. Awesome stuff. And, of course, Omar.
I completely forgot Ziggy was in Generation Kill! I was too busy drooling over Alex Skarsgard. I'm so shallow like that. Luckily, I have it on DVD, so I can watch it again while pretending to be a serious critical watcher. ;)
Well I rewatched GK again last week purely to drool over ASkars, and have been sitting through his Swedish films even those I can't find English subtitles for!
That flashback scene was just epic. Gorgeous and heartbreaking.
I don't know that the show is jumping out at me action/plot wise, but the characters are solid and interesting, the writing is fabulous as far as one-liners that are smart and sassy go.
I'm gonna stick with it and hope it gets a bit more vavavoom so it can get more viewers.
OMG I cried at that last scene. Poor Hank. My honey Donal is so rocking this role, he really is. I confess I watched Grounded For Life religiously just for him. ;)
It's part of Terrier's charm for me that it's so low-key, but like you're pointing out, I don't think it's grabbing people because it is so... I don't know, laid back?
It definitely needs more word of mouth, because so far the ratings haven't been so hot. Apparently, this week did even worse than the pilot. :(
