You know, between Twitlight and this, I've started to wonder: Why do these vampire guys bother going to high school? I mean... it's frickin' creepy, is what it is. I prefer they lurk. Of course, it's only these ( Read more... )

Is this where I confess that my first published story featured a vampire in high-school, who could run around in daylight? In my defense, she had just been turned and was hiding the fact from her family, and daylight prevented her from using her really cool vampire powers, and it did make her weak, so she was pretending to be sick to stay out of school as much as she could. None of this silly "let's pretend we're teens even though we've been around for millennia" stuff for her, and heaven knows she didn't sparkle. She was, however, a vicious and unrepentant murderer, whose victims really didn't mind it when she killed them. Because she was 16, I couldn't get that story published today without making changes that would kind of negate the entire point of telling the story. Another rant for another day.

As to the discrimination experienced by the women in the article, that's the thing that makes me foaming-at-the-mouth furious. It took Karen Thompson seven years of litigation to get guardianship of her partner Sharon Kowalski after ( ... )

But there is a difference between a newly made, high school aged vampire going to high school, and a century or more old, long-ago-turned vampire going to high school and stalking a teenaged human girl who is not the Vampire Slayer and thus not privy to vampire stuff. I've also got nothing inherently against vampires who can withstand daylight -- I sort of prefer the kind you talk about, when they're like, human-weak or completely helpless, but don't necessarily burst into flames.

I like my evil like I like my men (and women!) EVIL! ;)

Oh, dude, don't even get me started about the whole LGBTQ Second Class Citizen thing. I have that argument at least once a week with my parents, who are "civil unions" people. They think it's just semantics, but it goes so much deeper to the very way that we classify people as citizens or not quite citizens based on the gender of who they love.

I'll stop there. We should have a rant day, because I could go on forever too. Love you! *smooch*

I don't necessarily MIND vampires who can withstand daylight, as long as they're weakened or sickened by it (or, you know, destroyed outright). It just seems like these vampires who can just traipse along, la-di-da in the daylight don't really feel like vampires at all -- especially when they're not particularly evil, and don't even have fangs.

TRUE BLOOD TONIGHT, BABY! W00T!

Yeah, that salad was good, man. *sigh* I would stock up when those bags go on sale, but the'd go bad before I'd get to eat them all. :(
