Oh my favorite thus far is someone who wrote this huge capslocking speech about how JKR is a homophobe because she didn't put any of this girl's favorite slash ships into the book. Yes, because JKR was going to write about buttsex.

A YOUNG ADULT book, no less. People. GET A GRIP! (she said with absolutely no irony at all)

Is this freaking icon a spoiler? I mean, Dobby's a hero, right? *sigh*

Well the problem with that is that she says where "most people would consider it crossing the line". Well they need to MAKE a line. They weren't clear and it's just so ambiguous, and people are going to complain about freedom of speech yes?

I dunno this whole thing is fucked up. I mean this is my personal journal and by right should be allowed to talk about whatever I want to. I mean if I decide to talk about something illegal in my personal (non-online) journal then who's to stop me?

It's true that we're still walking a thin line, here. You're right in that it's still a largely subjective process, and there's no real way to get rid of that ambiguity.

It's one of those things where we won't know until it happens, and then it'll be too late. What to do? What to do?

Bwahahahahaha! Thunder From Down Under! That was one of the things S. and I joked about in Vegas on our honeymoon. We were trying to decide what shows we wanted to go see and he was all, "Oh yes, I definitely want to go see THAT." and then asked the concierge all these questions about it with a totally straight face. I thought I might implode from giggling.

Dude, I don't usually go for that shit. I mean, what are we, guys? ;) But the girls talked me into going, and it was AWESOME!

The thing that made it so different was that it wasn't just some dumb hunks dancing around in a g-string. They had personality, you know? They laughed, they smiled, they interacted with the audience. The MC, Marcus was hilarious. The dances were fun and playful AND really hot. And did I mention the other HAWTITUDE of the men? *G*

It was well worth it, and I'd go again in a minute the next time I'm there.

I don't think your husband would have enjoyed it so much though. ;)

Hee. And he probably wouldn't have appreciated how they come over to the tables and give lap dances and encourage you to, uh... handle their assets. *G*

tl;dr means "Too long; didn't read." Which usually means that somebody is getting upset or arguing about something they didn't even read. *G*

Thank you! I'm so excited about going! *dances* I loves my girls.

I read Wikipedia, so you don't have to. ;)

We'll have a blast, I'm sure. And by the end of the week, we'll all be ready to kill each other. It happens every year. *G*

>I still contend that the lack of hard and fast rules about what exactly is >supposed to be obscene is worrisome.

is that possible though? Obscenity is so dependent on context.

It's really not possible, and that's why drawing imaginary lines here can be so dangerous.

They're talking about rules that basically say "what the community thinks is obscene" (the Miller Test). In this case, the community is actually LJ. I get the impression that something has to be really egregious in order to get booted. I think things will be okay, but the only way to know is to wait and see. Some people -- especially folks who write Potterporn -- don't want to wait.

I'd be happy just to hear them say, "If we find something objectionable, we'll contact you and ask you to remove it," rather than having them just wipe people's journals out wholesale.
