What's in a name? Jacob's dream girl?

Hey guys okay so I have been writing a fic for a while now that I just haven’t put up because I need to get out all the kinks and such. Well in this fic Jacob has a girlfriend, one is actually likeable, and confident, and fun and just not Bella

Hee! I once wrote a similar story where Jacob was engaged to a girl (who wasn't purposely written to be someone unlikeable). I actually find naming characters quite enjoyable cause I think it adds to the character/personality creation. Like for instance if they have a weird, alternative name do they resent it or embrace it? if they have an old fuddy duddy name, do they change it? if they have a preferred nickname, when, how and why did they get it? there's much more to names in character development than meets the eye. But its gotta be one that you love, cause its quite annoying to be stuck with a name you have fallen out of love with.

Anyway in this story I named the girl Issi (pronounced Izzy) cause it was a nice not-very-common name. It was only once I got writing the story that I decided that one twist would be that she was also named Isabella, only she shortened it to Issi as opposed to Bella. Which turned out to be an interesting device to use in comparing the two of them. So that was a nice bit of serendipity there. ha ha

Oh yes I deffinitly read this story a while back, My Best Friends Wedding, or something like that right?. I was actually thinking about how you character was so likeable a couple day ago while writing. :)

And I liked your name, Issi. But if it was Izzy, i just wouldn't have. I don't really know why. i'm just weird about names, haha.

But yeah I have been looking some more nad I've found a couple I like. but,I'm just wondering if anyone throws me something I fall in love with.

yup thats the one. oh thats cool that you were actually thinking about it. Let me tell you speaking from experience, you might run into some difficulty in trying to convince people to like your character. For some people its hard to imagine Jacob with anyone else (but Bella) in a way that could be thought of as positive, and so they automatically reject it, or purposefully look for the catch that will prove she's a horrible character, undeserving of Jake etc etc. but then again i dont know what your going for with your character, but I always love reading stories where the "other woman/man" isn't villanised and is actually shown as a human, not some bitchy barrier standing in the way of the endgame.

and yeah, i agree i wouldn't have liked it as much if she spelt her name Izzy. I guess its cause I'm a fan of classic names and classic spelling. I'm weird about names too.

and yeah theres no harm in taking suggestions. who knows, you might get thrown one you love. good luck! :)

I hate naming characters so you have my sympathy lol, I'll throw a few names at you:
Megan, Kate, Rebecca, Chloe, Sophie, Emma, Freya, Samantha, Hannah, Holly, Suzanna, Imogen, Jasmine, Tabatha...can't think if any more off the top of my head XD

i admit i dont use OCs in my stories. i usually just use angela, or lizzie(that girl in BD) or something.

but when I HAVE to use OCs, i unconsciously model them after real people, or use a character from ANOTHER (unknown) series. i used the names of the real people i modeled them after, which are nadia and dannie.

and if i had to write Jake paired with a new character... it'd be this girl from another series who I loved, her name was Roxana.

I hoped I gave you ideas of how to name your characters :D

OMG FOREVER THAT WAS ORIGINALLY THE NAME OF JACOB'S GF FOR 'UNIMPRESSED'.

But I changed it because I like that name too much to give it to Jake's gf who is not Bella.
