Hand writing your FF

Do any of you draft chapters/drabbles/one-shot’s, ect by hand first?

In this digital age, the thought of ever using a pad and paper is foreign; at least it was to me. For every thing I’ve ever written (and not just FF - in my real life as well), has all been done in Word document form - even when I’m doing outlines and brainstorming, just “jotting ( Read more... )

Oh man, I always write my fic on paper first. Writing things out on a computer just doesn't feel natural to me. I did NaNoWriMo last November (50,000 words in 30 days), and I handwrote almost all of it. Two entire notebooks full, haha. Even after I've typed my stuff up, I always print out a copy and do the editing by hand.
I've got notebooks entirely devoted to fanfic--usually Twilight--that are either first drafts waiting to be typed up, or lines of dialogue I haven't been able to work into a fic yet. I'm glad you had such good luck trying it out for yourself (:

It's fantastic! I guess I was in the minority then always just using the computer. I think I might start having piles of notebooks as well :)

OMG, I was just thinking about something like this, the writing on pad paper thing I mean. I haven't really written anything in a long while. I was into an anime/jdrama verse that I wrote for, but between school and now work the drive just disappeared. Then I get into Twilight (again) and I feel that urge to write. I miss writing, but I never have the time and when I do I have time I'm just staring and thinking. Then yesterday, during my lunch hour, I just sat in the breakroom and wrote (on paper! with a pen!) and I was in the "zone". Of course, one hour isn't nearly enough time, so at the end of the day, waiting for my mom at Subway (of all places) I sat and just started writing. And I got nearly 10 pages (front and back, she was two hours late) written. It's such a good feeling, isn't? I'm hoping to finish it today (just a oneshot, I'm just starting) and posted by tomorrow. I think the thing with the pad paper...you get to focus on it. The words are down and with it, your thoughts when you wrote them. With the computer there are so ( ... )

The internet is one of the main distractions I find when writing. I can't keep away from lj or twitter.

This is SO TRUE. I am always distracted writing, then I'm zipping along the last couple days until I post it. I need to close other things when I'm writing. haha.

You know? I honestly think it is the distractions on the internet that keep me from just writingwritingwriting. Thinking back, I've always typed out a few sentences, stopped to check LJ/email/twitter/facebook etc etc, and then two hours later I go back to write like a few more sentences - repeat process. By using paper and pen, and staying away from the computer, I was able to write for hours distraction free. You just gave me an a-ha moment LOL

I always write things out on paper first. It just feels right to me. I can never write straight on to computer when it comes to writing fan fiction.

I'm about to start on my own original novel and that will be on paper till I feel it right to go on to the computer.

That's how I feel now - it just feels right to be writing it out by my own hand first, and then typing it up. I tried just going straight to the comp this morning, before I posted this topic discussion, to start out my next chapter, and it just felt wrong trying to type it. I was completely stuck and had none of that enjoyment and vigor that I had had hand writing it. I grabbed the pen and pad, and I've gotten six pages done already. I've certainly found my new writing process.

I find that I write more if I use pen and paper. Of course it helps if I have tunes to listen to as well.

I have one of those too, but I left it at home (I';m on holiday) and now I have a plot bunny bouncing around in my head.

*nods* I think there maybe a few sheets of paper in my laptop bag which I might scribble on tonight.

Since I haven't written a long fic yet, all mine originate on Word. Though I'm doing a WIP right now and I've written notes and an outline on paper. Most of my idea for drabbles and short one shots come right when I'm at the computer.

However, when I was 12, I did write a Sailor Moon fic completely on paper and I typed it up a few years ago. Man, it was horrible, but awesome!
