Fic Housing

Jun 12, 2010 00:29

It is late and now that I know so many TATSonians are up at this hour, I'm going to start making late night discussion posts more often. So...

Where do you read or post your Twific?

FFnet? Twilighted? That Coffee Shop place? LiveJournal? Jacob Black N Pack? A private blog? An underground fanfic site I don't know about?

Which one is your favorite? What ( Read more... )

I prefer FF.net, it's easiest to use plus it reaches the most people.

I like Twilighted...but from what I've noticed it's more E/B centric and I get a lot less reviews over there then I do at FF.net.

And I only post one-shots on LJ. One-shots on LJ seem to do better then one-shots on FF.net. At least that's what I've noticed.

FFnet does reach more people, I agree. But in my experience the people are a lot younger and more immature than the peeps I get reviewing at Twilighted. On Twilighted, I get a few people who leave me real, quality feedback, while on FFnet it's mostly "Update soon!"

Yes, J/B one-shots do NOT do well on FFnet. Again, I think it's because it's a younger crowd that isn't satisfied with shorter pieces where the content is more densely packed with meaning. They prefer the fluff that comes with multi-chap stories. They enjoy going on a ride.

I also agree that Twilighted has more E/B than J/B, but I think the ratio is pretty similar on FFnet where it's much easier to overlook the number of E/B stories by playing with the filters. I've gotten alot of feedback from J/B fans on two of my three stories, so I think the readership is there, but the J/B authorship is lacking. I wish more of our writers would post stuff over there.

I started posting my FF on twcs library when I heard about the fic-pulling on FFn. It's not really hard to use, though it did take me a bit to figure out the easiest way to post a chapter. I have to save the chapter as plain text (though there are other options but this worked the best), then close out of word otherwise it won't load it. Then once I do that, I have to go through the text and italicize everything that had BEEN italicized because it doesn't copy it over that way ( ... )

FFnet and LJ are my main sources for posting my fics. I don't really get many reviews either way, and to be honest I'm a little scared to post anything to Twilighted, there seems to be too many rules and I guess you could say I'm scared of rejection haha.

LJ is fun because I know how to format everything here and you can use banners and all that jazz but I'd like more reviews lol.

FFnet works for me because I don't write smut at all. (I tried once and it kinda creeped me out lol). I don't do much to format my stories and I really like the profile pages, they are fun to post to, especially the 'if you have this post to your profile' stuff. I have gotten a good number of reviews for my Edward/Bella fics and some for my Jacob/Bella fics but they'd never rival anybody.

I could rant on and on about reviews but I'll just settle for a simple *pout*

Do you find it harder to write your J/B stuff when your E/B stories get more reviews?

Surprisingly no. While I do love to get reviews on my writing when I originally start a story (whether it be a one shot or a multi chapter) I do it because I love the story and I want to write it. A lot of times my multi chapters get lost in my head because so many new ones come in and I find I don't want to write the old ones anymore. And the most ironic thing? The story that gets favorited and reviewed even to this day is an E/B fic that's based on The Breakfast Club. And literally all I did was change the names and put the script into narrative form. That's really a painful process I have to say. So I don't know what it is, but I'm actually getting favorited and alerted for my J/B fic still which makes me happy. I just wish those people would take the time to write a review along with favoriting it.

Me too. And I think it's sad that a lot of people don't write fanfic for those reasons.

And I'm totally with you on the favorite and story alert thing. It's a nice way of knowing that they like the story, but I really enjoy written feedback that has some thought put into it.

Since I don't write I'll just say I prefer to read on LJ. I'm comfortable here and the standards here at TATS and at SOB are good.

I also have accounts on FF, ADF and Twilighted. I rarely use them unless I'm rec'd something on there. Looking for decent material on FF is too much work for me. ADF and Twilighted are both decent though the J/B material is sorely lacking and I'm almost positive that 99% is cross posted on LJ.

These days I post on FF.net, LJ, and Twilighted. (Years ago I used to mostly post on message boards, but that's not the case anymore.) LJ is by far my highest preference; the people here are smarter, the quality is higher, and the threading format of replies makes it easier to have genuine discussions. FF.net is good for basic archival purposes, but I agree, THE FORMATTING SUCKS A THOUSAND SYPHILITIC MONKEYS. Twilighted is nice for higher-quality archival purposes, and they've got the best formatting (I still find LJ to be kind of limiting -- or, well, if not limiting, at least rather taxing in its quirkiness).

LJ is by far my favorite. Fewer reviews, but more feedback.
