Lent book fast

Apr 07, 2012 11:13

In an attempt at reducing the size of my pile of books to read, I forbade myself to buy any during Lent. The pile was out of control: three shelves and various heaps that sprang up in corners of the room, like fungi. I got too intimidated to count the individual items but I think that there were at least a hundred ( Read more... )

That is 34 books more than I have read in this year - and the two that I have actually started I still haven't finished. So, don't feel ashamed, for I'm a lot worse than you are.

All I seem to be reading in these days is fanfiction or research stuff to my own stories. My book-case is stuffed with to-read stuff, and I never get around to actually do some reading.

Of course, the fact that my working schedule is deep sh*t may have to do something with it.

I think research is a good use of time (and fanfiction; I haven't read any fanfic for absolutely ages).

Sorry that the work schedule is leaving you so little time. I hope it may get better!

I shamefully admit that by my tight schedule it's easier to read fanfic; that way I already knew the given situation and the characters, and I don't have to invest into understanding what's actually going on.

Besides, it's either writing or reading, and I barely find the time to do my writing. Work schedule is what it is - in these days one has to be grateful to have work to begin with, especially at my age.

I'm impressed by your willpower on not buying any more during Lent!

I know what you mean about barely denting the pile, though: it's so quick to accumulate them; so much slower to actually get through them...

Luckily my willpower wasn't dented that much; some things I would have liked but nothing I actually cried to leave :)

I forgot to ask if you got the book I sent for Christmas. I hope it arrived OK!

Oh gosh, I'm sorry, G! I thought I'd e-mailed to say thank you, but my head has been so all over the place lately, I'm just hopeless. But yes, it did arrive! I was a bit worried, because the wrapping had been torn, but the book itself was completely intact. And thank you, it was a kind and happy-making idea!

I saw it and thought of you :). Glad it got there. (You might have emailed - I worry that I might miss something amid the spam.)

Ah! but what a way to spend a decade...

(Sorry: I'm totally useless. The only advice I can offer in terms of reduction of personal libraries is to move across a continent. It worked for me twice, but now we've been settled, the shelves are groaning again.)
