'Round' prompt recommendations

My personal favourites among some very nice drabbles for open_on_sunday's 'round' challenge.

Turning Ten, by deird1
The paradox of Dawn's existence and non-existence, focusing on the birthday when she, Joyce and Buffy rode the carousel. Beautifully structured, and for me works on an imagistic level as well as a logical one.

Not related to the above, but I'm just rereading Bridge to Terebithia, by Katherine Paterson, and I saw this line and thought of you:

"He was reading one of Leslie's books, and the adventures of an assistant pig keeper were far more important to him than Brenda's sauce."

Excellent!

I read Bridge to Terabithia... goodness, about twenty years ago? I can't even remember the main character's name, but I remember the dog (Prince Terrien!), and the teacher who takes the hero to the Smithsonian museum, and Leslie yelling at a driver who litters as they go by.

Does it stand up well to rereading now?

Well done remembering all that! The main character is Jess (Jesse Oliver Aarons, Jr.). It's one of my favourite children's books, I reread it regularly, so I think it stands up extremely well. (We watched the film on my birthday; that does a very creditable job.)

When I was in - I think - the second year of senior school, I took part in an inter-school quiz that was supposed to test comprehension/retention of what you read. You were assigned books for each round and then asked questions about them. I'm sure that one of the books was Bridge of Terabithia. So though I'd already read it before the quiz, I must have reread it several times to memorise trivia. Though clearly not poor Jesse's name :)
