What does one wear to these sorts of things? I forgot to even think about it. I'm guessing it's... Formal? Semi-formal? Does it really matter ( Read more... )

I'll leave that decision to you. I'm not busy, aside from the sudden work with my hair that I'll have to manage.

Then let's reach a conclusion or two.

And you don't have to worry about your hair, you know.

Alright. If you don't mind the preparation taking away the 'magic' of it all, I'm in my room, you're free to come in.

And do you honestly expect me to show up at the dance with my hair as bushy as it normally is? If I have a legitimate opportunity to fuss, I may as well take it.

She says he's free to come in, and so Ron just enters, fiddling with one of the buttons on his left cuff. "I s'pose I'll be alright with a tie. I've got to find what I did with my jacket."

After a moment, he'd finally managed to close the button, and began working on the other one. "Nevermind that, though." Casting a look up at her from his cuff, he attempted to cut to the punch. "I think you used the word 'together' the other day." For some reason, a few details were escaping him, but he was sure something like that had happened. "D'you think we're together, then?"

Hermione glances in Ron's direction surreptitiously, a small sigh of relief at the fact that his current outfit is a bit more sightly than the outfit from years ago--not that the same outfit would deter Hermione from attending the dance with Ron regardless. She smiles in his direction to acknowledge his presence, before turning back to the mirror she's erected on her desk and using her hair iron to relax her curls.

She's taking more care in this than she did at the fourth year dance, even if his words prove to be distracting. Some things aren't quite fitting in place, however. Her bookshelves look curiously empty compared to their normal state, far less jars and salves, more scrunchies and earrings scattered about.

"...I don't know, Ron," she finally replies, turning around to look at him, busying herself with her bobby pins. "I used the word 'together' to keep from... assuming too much, I suppose. Not all the decisions in this should be left up to me."

Actually, 'together' was sort of general, wasn't it? And anyway, hadn't they been together for a while, in a sense. Him, Harry and Hermione were just about as together as people could get, friends for ages, practically family. Hermione wasn't Harry, though. He wanted to stay with Harry, because he couldn't imagine anyone else being his best mate, and he might've been able to say that he loved him in a certain sense. He just... Wanted Hermione. Not in a possessive way, of course, but to be with her and all those words implied. If he slowed down enough to really think about it, he was sure that that was the truth of it. Terrifying, actually ( ... )

There was a faint smile which Hermione worked hard to disguise, and perhaps it was lucky that Ron was busying himself so with his cuffs, because it was getting harder and harder to hide by the second. All things considered, it was still subdued, because Hermione knew that everything which transpired in the City was temporary. That a return to their world could turn this all asunder... and yet, what? Was that cause to wait? More and more, Hermione was starting to think, perhaps not. That Remus was on the brink of death, that they were all looking to buy some extra time, cheat death, but just because that they could didn't make it a negative thing, didn't mean that they should have refrained from making the most of it ( ... )
