I saw the pairing line and I went "Ooh!" and my brain caught up and then I went "Oh..." cause all the River/Rose stories I've seen are all very carefully about how much they both mean to the Doctor and how they can bond over the Doctor, more stuff about the Doctor, etc, etc... And then I read the pairing a third time and saw it was Agent Tyler and alt!River, and got super excited because that sounds AWESOME ( ... )

I figure, what's the fun of a canon that has actual alternate universes if you can't use them to explore who some characters would be if their lives hadn't quite gone the same way. Though I started writing this before A Good Man Goes to War so I'm handwaving a bit the fact that, without the Doctor, River wouldn't actually be River. In my head there's a vague explanation for that but I'm not sure if there will be a relevant moment in this fic to talk about it, so I'm hoping readers just roll with it.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment! I'm glad you're on board. :D

I think it's a brilliant take on standard Whovian AU. I cannot wait to see where you take these ladies!

And by brilliant take, I mean, you're treading entirely new unexplored waters, a rarity in this fandom. I am having a brain foggy day and probably shouldn't be allowed within 30 feet of a computer keyboard, lol.

Well, this took me several reads to get half of it, mostly because I was reading snippets of it at work and now, again, when I'm half-awake, but my overall impression hasn't changed: this is a really interesting and intriguing start to a story. I love how, in the beginning, you jump right into a mystery and continually build upon it, the reader never knowing where River is or how she got into it, not mention what type of trouble she or Rose is in.

Torchwood Internal Affairs (for lack of a better word) were great, including the aliens. Plus, opening sentence was a wonderful little touch to the normal Who world that we all love.

Basically, great start and I'm looking forward to how this develops. There's just not enough good AUs like this one, not to mention I absolutely love the pairing and concept. Fantastic, really. :)

Thanks! This was one of those scenarios that started off all innocently like "Ha ha what if...lol" but then out of nowhere got all srs bsns and I don't even know how that happened. But the existence of parallel dimensions and universes is a handy excuse for sticking characters together who, in canon, never meet and seeing what happens. Without having to deal with my incessant need to explain all of the details!

I hope you enjoy the rest! It's chugging along nicely, so more soon.

Oh I *really* like this! I admire the way you take these characters we know so well and put them in a new situation that makes them completely recognizable while also suggesting that we'll see something new in them. Like Rose maybe having an honest to goodness bond with a woman ( other than Jackie). We hear about Shareen and she bonds with Sarah Jane in the end--but I'd love to see her build a relationship (sexy or otherwise) with another woman. Whatever Donna's other insecurities, she was brilliant at reaching out as a friend, esp to other women (Martha, Agatha Christie, Jenny [sort of]). Rose, as much as I admire her trust in the Doctor and her ability to be concerned about the aliens trying to kill her, never gets to that place of friendship. But maybe that's just because she' never been given the chance.

Anyway, enough of me nattering on. What I really wanted to say is that I love this start and can't wait for more!
