Having only just freed ourselves from the merry-go-round of therapy for Cosima for the sensory integration issues and all the behavioural stuff that went with that, it now looks as if it's Cosimo's turn. Acting on the advice of a friend we have had Cosimo assessed to see if he needs speech therapy, and it's beginning to look like he might be

Have you read this blog? Her son Noah has some of that stuff going on and she has been through all of the stuff involved with IEP, eval. and trying to get the appropriate institutions to cough up the dough so her kid can get the help he needs. She can be pretty funny about some of it and also very honest. Her latest post is about the pre-schools and the home visits.

I think the one thing that helps is that there is a lot more available information and more people who you can talk to about this. So while there are people who will raise an eyebrow and go, "eh?" there are other people who will get it or at least sympathize. (My Mom could tell you lots of stories about speech therapy, evaluations, irritating discussions with well-meaning people and so on.)

No one's children are entirely normal.

All sounds very difficult -- for you both and presumably also for young Cosimo. It sounds as if the skills exist to help him past this, but accessing them might not be easy. Will be thinking of you.

I hope you can get all the help you need, and I'm sure it must be very difficult to face up to this. Having had a cursory read of the site you linked to it does at least look as if it is a problem that can be overcome with the right speech therapy etc. We're thinking of you all.
