"This," Guy replied to Willie, though it was unlikely that it was the answer to his question, "is Lance Sweets. Endearing, isn't he?" He turned to Lance then. "Hullo," he said in greeting before motioning Willie to come further. "You should have a chat. It'd be nice."

Willie hung back for the moment, trying his best not to look too startled and confused. He wasn't sure what was going on anymore, or why Mr Burgess had lied to him about football, even though he wasn't too surprised by it. Mr Burgess had a funny way with the truth.

"Pleased to meet you, sir," was all he could think to say, still trying to puzzle out why Guy would make up such an elaborate story just to get him to see a friend of his.

"Sweets, please. Or doctor Sweets, if you need that. It's nice to meet you, Willie. Why don't you have a seat. Mister Burgess, are you going to stay?" he asked, looking at him directly and giving the slightest nod toward a chair. It wasn't really a question. The first time might go better if the man stuck around since it seemed like Willie didn't know what he was in for.

He couldn't keep the surprise off his face. It didn't sound like a question to Guy, more like a pressing suggestion, which was amusing, because he had no intention to stay. And it wasn't actually very amusing at all. "No, best not," he assured, looking at the chair.
