Defense is the U.S. spelling.
Awfully confusing as to which should be used if you are in England but writing about a U.S. court case ;).

You can use both I guess. It's hard to know these days and there's so many words that have variants. This is actually one that confuses me at times, too.
Australia/UK say "Defence Force", U.S. say "Defense Force".
I try to avoid using the american version of spelling because it shits me but eventually it will take over most words in our language.

And agreed, but on the upside imagine how much less time it will take to write our documents when we don't have to say 'ignore all' to every second word we type in! Yay! :D

I find it disturbing that some schools allow both ways.... probably because most spell checkers are defalt to English (U.S)
