Then again..it's not that surprising since she was like 85 when she did Golden Girls. LOL.

Oh, my dear, ignorant Karla. She was 84 when she died. She was not 85 when she did Golden Girls. In fact, she was the second-youngest actress of the Golden Girls cast. She was in her early 60s back then--they put heavy make-up on her so she could play Bea Arthurs' mother. Incidentially, Bea Arthurs is several months older than her.

Bow to my gay knowledge of tv shows/movies popular with the gays, kthx. Also, she kind of was my heroine. Well, one of them anyway. I loved her smartass comments. lol Like, when Blanche started talking about her sex life and how it's like an open book or something, Estelle shot back with: Your life is an open blouse. ROFLMAO.

Edit: OMG. My mother just informed me that when she heard about the passing, she totally thought of me.

ROFLMAO how did I not know that the gay community loved Golden Girls??

Still...she was pretty old. Haha well it felt like it was long ago...which I guess it was, almost 2 decades!

lol Shame on you! There's a reason the gay community loves Estelle Getty, other than her sassiness. When she was healthy, she was a big pro-gay activist who was one of the first people to help people with AIDS, when the '80s epidemic first took place. Other people were too afraid, and started treating the gays and those with AIDS like they were diseased, and that's where the "AIDS is a gay disease" mindset began to take root. But nope, not Estelle. When she found out her openly nephew was suffering from AIDS, she took care of him--paid for his hospice bills and such. That little old lady, she had balls before everyone else grew a pair ( ... )
