Jesus Harvey Christ. Are people bitching about us now too? Okay, whatever.

Dear people bitching about the_snarkery, and I assume you're going to see this because people seem to have some sort of bizarre fascination for hanging around communities they think are Teh Evol:

The user info for this community speaks thusly -

The Miraflist is doing an OotP read- ( Read more... )

I suppose that sistermagpie is talking about this post of mine, which, actually, I posted on GJ too. If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure you saw it and didn't have problems with it.

I apologise if anything I posted have been mistaken for bashing of this community. All I can say is that bitching about the way the community is run and the way OotP is discussed was not what I intended - at least I don't see it that way. I know that maybe I sound pathetic with my attempts to defend myself, but I'm being absolutely sincere when I say that I love this community and that I agree with almost every single thing that is being said here.

Mirabella, if you think that my post was in any way encouraging any bitching against the_snarkery, please feel free to exclude me, or I'll remove myself.

Now I'm off to wash my big mouth with a soap, for the sake of it remaining shut for once.

Mirabella, if you think that my post was in any way encouraging any bitching against the_snarkery,

Wow, um, no. Your post seemed pretty pro-Snarkery to me. I don't know what posts exactly she's talking about, though she seemed upset about them; I was assuming that it's one of those "If you don't think every word JKR wrote is the pinnacle of literary achievement then you have no right to call yourself a fan OMG!!1" things again; this fandom seems to have them every six or eight weeks, so it seems inevitable that this community should get caught in the wank at some point or other.

It would never even have occurred to me that your post could be seen as Snarkery-bashing. This wasn't directed toward you at all.

Thanks! Glad to hear it! I mean - true, my defence of Neville referred to some statements about him I've seen here in the community, but it referred also to posts I've seen all over LJ, my entire flist included. It seems that many dislike him and I just wanted to give some sort of a counter-argument. That's all.

Definitely--I mean, I think it's *good* that you did that because that's what lj's for. If you're thinking something about things you've read you might as well get your opinion out there. This is kind of the same thing, really. Because even people who really don't like the community, I get it. I can totally understand why somebody isn't looking for this, and they can say so in comments or in their lj. But I figured, well, why not put out something that might be a response to that?

Shame on you! Don't you know you can't be a true fan of anything and still enjoy snark at its expense?

I tell you what, too, there's going to be a whole lot of it this week as we get out our pent-up Hagrid hate.

I might even have to give up my snarkery-lurker status and join in on that one. I would have been much happier if Hagrid had never appeared in OotP. He made me want to stick my head in the oven.

I actually like, nay love, some of the characters you guys shred. Hell, I liked OotP. And still I laugh my ass off here regularly. Maybe I'm just weird in that I enjoy reading intelligent commentary, especially when it's not directly inline with the way that I think. Pondering different viewpoints is a Good Thing. So is being able to critically analyze something.

Going back to lurking now.

Man, the_snarkery only made me fall in love with canon all over again. ;) And reflect deeply about it, which in my book, can only be seen as a highly rewarding experience for one in such an huge fandom, one in which you can easily forget that the books, not the fanfiction or the fanart for as valuable as they might be, are really the heart of it all. So thank you. :)

OMG, that makes me so happy to hear. I think that was one of the things that made me really think about the posts...it was sort of like, "Wait, this is tearing things apart and doing horrible things to them?" Because the weird thing is I've actually gotten to look forward to part of my Friday lunch is, "Okay, let's read a chapter of OotP!" I'm definitely getting more out of it than I did the first time. It doesn't make me dislike canon at all!

In fact, it kind of relates to the book in a way, because for instance, Harry beats Malfoy up which supposedly should make him feel better, but the next time he sees him he hates him just as much. If I were beating the book up I'd probably also hate it more the more I did it!
