This is the first long story I started writing way back in 2007, and I've not updated since 2009, however it's always been my intention to finish it, and I've got the next part half written and hope to get the story finished my the end of this month

Oh this is a great story. I'd never read it before, and I thought I'd read all of your stuff. I really love your world building here, it's very absorbing. I really like the OCs as well, I found myself feeling a lot of compassion for them.

I was thinking I wonder how differently this might play out you completing it now, rather than post series 2 when you wrote the other parts...

Pleased you like it, its been an interesting story to write.

Although the posting dates are all after series 2 here on LJ I started writing and posting it on fanfiction.net back before series 2 was shown in the Dec of 07. The basic outline has remained the same as originally planned, despite what has happened in canon since.

Grell's role and Devor society in general have had rather more written about them that I'd perhaps thought I'd write at the beginning, but where Jack and Ianto end up at the end of the story is the same as it had been planned from the start.

Pieces of information gained in series 2 have been used, such as Jack having joined Torchwood in the 1890's, but mostly I've tried to only keep the information used what was known at the end of series one.

(I've lost track of just how many stories I've written, I know that it's over 100 including drabbles, as I made a count at the end of last year

That's very interesting. I think I've found stories written post S2 often feel more secure about Jack and Ianto's relationship if that makes sense. Even though it was clearly there is series 1, a lot had to be added to the canon. Or speculated or something. Plus I think after CoE people felt a need to give them an even happier ending than maybe before? Having said all that it could also be my bias as I found myself not wanting to read some stuff that I may have read pre CoE. Plus I don't read non canon pairings, so may have been missing all sorts of things. (It's not a policy or anything, I just find I never feel convinced by them and I waste enough time reading fan fiction as it is. )

There does definitely seem to have been a move towards fluffier and mpreg/family centric Jack/Ianto fics after CoE, and I agree it does seem to be because people want them to have a happy ending
