Will went to sleep that night, reflecting on what had transpired that day. The witch hunter patrols had become more frequent, and the demons were now taking anyone with any magical talent whatsoever to the breeding farms. It was getting harder, and harder to practice his magic. How he hated this world. How he wished he could be somewhere, anywhere, but here. Except maybe the world of perpetual Thursdays, or the world that was just shrimp.
He thought back to how he had discovered magic. It had happened three, no, four years ago. It had been one Indian Summer kind of day at Sunnydale High, late September.
He had seen one his fellow classmates, Amy Madison, cast some fierce fireballs at the demons that were going to collect her for breeding to make stronger demons. At first he had thought, ~Wow, I wish I could do that~, and then he had found the books. Lots of books. From Alchemy, to the Zodiac. With the help of Rupert Giles, he began to study, practice and soon found that he had a certain, how to say, gift, a talent for magic. Eventually, he became extremely powerful, and, while he found that he wasn’t so good at calling fire. (He could do it, but it was very hard, and the fire he called was usually a sickly color) he was especially talented in calling lightning. He smiled, as he brought his hand up, and allowed a ball of power to appear in his hand. He studied it, and once again, marveled at how impressive he was.
There were times, where he wondered, what would happen if he were to study the darker material, truly cut loose, and attempt to take over, or if there had been what he had read as a Slayer. And, as the legend wrote: Into each generation a Slayer is born. One girl, in all the world, a chosen one to fight Vampires. To stop the spread of their evil, and the swell of their numbers.
He didn’t know what one girl could do, not that he had anything against girls, mind you. He actually really liked girls. They could do a lot, and may possibly fight like devils when pushed. But it was only one girl. And with those random thoughts, he drifted off to sleep, not realizing that when he awoke, the Powers That Be had taken Fate in to their own hands.
