Sweltering in the Perth heat, and even more particularly in the uncooled house and the horribly warm den with all the computers and the non-opening windows, I figured that there must be a fast way to cool down somehow ( Read more... )

You should use water that is body temp to encourage more to the surface, open the pores more and it evaporates faster and so cools you faster. You'd also find it helps if you keep your t-shirt damp (wring it out in luke-warm water and put it back on, redo every time it dries). It is also my understanding that the "cobber" neck thingy does work (a neckwrap filled with bead things that absorb water, you soak it, then tie it around your neck, keeping the nice big arteries up there cool).
