6.1 surround, uh, something

Quick shot of the first 6.1 prototype modes, before most of the colouration etc goes on. The standing weapons platform mode at the lower right isn't an official mode - it's just the arm-cannon mode (lower left) turned upside down and with legs.

Hmm, the helicopter mode and the walking gun mode don't really look as good as the other modes, but the other other modes all look quite solid and good.

Yeah, the helicopter mode got severely redesigned right at the last minute - literally as I was modelling it. It originally had the front 'leg' split into two and going off to the sides like the pair of back legs, and then flipped around to put the gunpod mounted on the front as a kind of 'nose'.

When I was putting it together, I realised that the three-legged stance put it further apart from some of the other modes (most particularly, the insect mode), so I went with it to see how it would look.

Unfortunately, the front doesn't end up looking enough like the real-world 'crane' helicopters to give the impression I was after. Not to mention that it looks too much like the jet had its nose broken and sprouted copter blades in response.

Here's a quick mockup of what some of the original four-legged versions might have looked like (with energon transport load):

Hmm. Maybe I'd try flipping the canopy around a bit and going for an Osprey look, instead of a crane helicopter?

*two hours of frantic redesigning and remodelling*

Something like this?
