And yeah, it doesn't sound like it stands up under examination, but I do find something about the general concept fascinating... perhaps something can be done with the idea...

It's the standard "children raised in closed community find way out despite fearful adults and corrupt authority figures" and "descendants of postapocalyptic group sealed away for centuries rediscover the world" stories, along with a little "and the quest must be completed before TIME RUNS OUT" to add tension
