One of the unfortunate effects of getting older, at least for me, seems to have been a psychological turnaround from seeking mental activity to indulging in mental (and physical) sloth. Dunno. I spend probably too much time playing World of Warcraft these days (I'm sure it's not right to dream the game night after night), so I make an effort to go to writing class once a week - haven't been since I got the food poisoning thing :( I keep reading, nick the kids' nintendo DS's and play the various brain training every so often, have a dozen or so "spot the difference/find the hidden object/solve the puzzle/logic" games that I try and do regularly. Then there's the DWCon volunteer stuff - juggling the finances for that tends to keep the brain ticking over :)

Is there a local am-dram group you could get involved with, or anything like that?

Possibly, although amdram's never appealed to me - while I can say the lines and not trip over the furniture, I don't have the actor's talent for improv.

I'm also at the moment still waiting to find out what's happening with various potential jobs, including what kind of timetable they'll require, as well as being on something of a cost-saving run, which means no extracurriculars for the time being.

Yes, but my writing tends to read like a technical document, which could be a bit disconcerting. I'm fairly sure there's not much of an audience for "Insert Tab A into Slot B; turn to page 6".
