The truth is snarky

Watched much of the first season of Supernatural the other day, and I think it suffers from hype crash.

It's not a *bad* TV show, per se, although some episodes are better than others. It just seems like a slightly updated and gritter version of The X-Files. Two main characters with different approaches, check. Monster of the week, check. Other ( Read more... )

I have to admit, if I was expected to choose between Supernatural and Heroes I'd pick the second one every time. Better writing, more interesting characters, and a wider and broader overall plot arc, which work together to make things much more interesting. Plus with Heroes the quality is consistently high, whereas the Brothers Winchester have their ups and downs. I'll probably pick up the second season of both series from the shops, but with SN, it's going to be "this had better be an improvement", whereas with Heroes it's going to be "please don't let them have forgotten what makes the show good".

What makes it a must-watch for me is that while there are better shows on TV (Not that many- the vast majority of TV is dreck, so I'd put Supernatural towards the bottom of the top 10), none of those shows deal with the supernatural in any sort of meaningful way; so in that respect its the top of the class. And I'll watch any show that deals with the supernatural on a regular basis.

For thinking it's OK, or for not thinking it's the second coming? :)
