You're obviously a bit hard on your poor bike ;)

So far it seems to be only the accessories which can't handle the pace - the frame and core components seem happy. Survival of the fittest I say.
I still think of it as "my new bike", but a discussion with dunq the other week made me realise that 5 months and 3500km later I'm at a stage where (by some measures at least) some of the parts need replacing. I have a chain and brake pads on order - I'll be fitting the rear pads almost immediately and the chain may be only a month or two behind.

That's just like our car - the car-parts are fine, it's just the bits around the car parts that insist on falling off - door handles, wing mirrors, sun shades, that part of the driver's seat that is disintegrating...

Was that the UWA brekky? I stopped going to bike to brekky after a couple of years in the city because I usually get a better brekky at work (I keep a stash of museli at work) :-) Wasn't worth eating that crap to support the cycling community! Hopefully they've improved :-)

All 3 of those things could have been ... user error :-) Lens not in properly, panniers not mounted properly, and FD stop not adjusted properly (unlikely to have slipped though). Having said that I looked at a friend's bike today with the chain coming off the inside chainring, and the FD would have rubbed if I adjusted it any further. And that was an expensive OCR 0 :-) bizarre.

It was indeed UWA. It sounded like their spread was going to be better than BTA's, even though BTA's would have cut about 15min off the trip ( ... )

Damn I'm jealous now. Next year I'll have to pop along to the UWA brekky! I never knew... :-)

Yeah I find the ortliebs click in easier if they've got some weight in them. Lightly loaded it can be a two handed job.

I certainly find the same with the ortliebs. This is part of why this occasion surprised me so, as both panniers were moderately well loaded yesterday. Having the D lock occy strapped to the rack doesn't make things easier though, I'm inclined to blame that on this occasion.

I really should have posted about all the upcoming breakfasts about 3 weeks ago (I was having as similar conversation last night with someone else about the Subi breakfast). I'll remember next time. Apparently the UWA breakfast was actually advertised on campus this year, which is a serious step up from the last two I've been to.
