I didn't expect that getting my MythTV box to talk to my new TV would be easy. This is lucky, or I would have been very disappointed.

I thought that box was set to full autoconf. There is no root password, but I may have forgotten to set up sudo access for that account.

Feel free to pull the gfx card out if you want.

I beg your pardon for my imprecision - I meant "don't have sudo access".
Thanks, I think that I will do some card removal but certainly didn't want to do so without your blessing.

This is a real problem with HD TVs.

My LCD has HDMI x 3 and VGA x 1. From memory, VGA will display 1920x1080, in blatant disregard of the limitations of VGA signals.

The story on 1920x1080 over HDMI is less rosy. The TV actually does post processing on HDMI inputs, which may regular things like Windows and games look naff, and adds tonnes of overscan. But only at 1920x1080, at lower resolutions, it looks fine.
