Have I said how good I've gotten at making vegetable beef soup?

Very good, that's how good. I mean, it's a no-brainer, but tonight's is the best pot to date.

Mmmmm. *passes out bowls*

Mmmmmmm, soup. I had the last of the split pea for supper and I have some lentil in the freezer, but I've never made beef vegetable. Thanks!

Potatoes, carrots, green beans, corn, yellow squash, basil, oregano, and a few other minor things (tomato-based, of course). I've never used squash before. The first time I added field peas at the captain's request. This was also the first time I didn't add a little ham, and yet it still managed to be super yumyum.

You're welcome!

(PS: our Viggoes are best friends!)

Oooooh! I'm really good at making it too, as long as the can opener's working. Our can opener's really fussy for some reason. Sometimes it drops the can right down before it's even finished slicing open the lid, then you have to pry the lid off with a butter knife and hope the soup will all come out without having to thin it with water. Gaaaaah! I hate that...hee!

Hahaha. :) It's actually one of the easiest things ever. You just brown the beef, add a little water, add some stewed tomoatoes and any veggies (some sooner than later, like carrots before potatoes b/c potatoes cook faster), season and cook until done, adding water occasionally! And it makes the house smell wonderful.

Mmm, homemade soup! [passes bowl] I've never made a beef-based one, but I'm pretty good at chicken, split pea and turkey. :)

Angie, passing up a secong bowl for her Viggo ;)

I have never made a homemade chicken soup. I'd really like to... although, to be honest, I really want it to taste like the chicken soup at one of my favorite mexican restaurants. (Mmm... fresh tomotoes and avacado!) I've made chicken and rice and chicken noodly sorts of things, but never soup. Do you have suggestions?

Hee! THe more Viggoes the merrier!

I'm not so much into tomatoes or avocado but the nice thing about making your own is you can put whatever the heck you like into it ( ... )

Ah, thank you! I actually don't eat onions or celery... though I could probably stand a bit of onion in the broth. Not celery, though, sadly. It's probably the only food I cannot eat unless all of the taste and smell is cooked out of it. I can't even do celery salt or seeds. The smell of celery cooking actually nauseates me. It's weird.

I will definitely give this a try, though, sans celery! Thanks. :D

Oh, I *do* love good vegetable beef soup. Here, I'll add some homemade buttermilk biscuits. *daintily slurps soup* *hands out biscuits*

It's wonderful to have a dish you do really well, isn't it?

Mmmm! Biscuits! I had a really good recipe for biscuits... probably still do somewhere, but it's a little more time consuming than I like. I usually just make garlic bread or something. Or sometimes rice or pasta!

I'm sure I'm not the best veggiebeefsoup maker ever, but it's perfect for me. The Captain says the last batch was better, but I thougt it was too tomato-y. *shrugs*

I make no claim that this is an actual recipe! It's just what I've found works, based largely on my mom telling me how to do it in what I'm certain was less than twenty words. :D ( ... )

I should have also said that any normal person would have probably thrown in onions with the beef and celery with the broth, but I don't eat either.

Also one of my parenthetical statements got all wonky but hopefully it still makes sense.
