The labor history of the USA should be far better known than it is. However I'd dispute that it was the largest since the Civil War, the Great Railway Strike of 1877 was actually far larger, and in the right circumstances could have become the US version of the Paris Commune. That's even more obscure than this one is. I've heard of this one as the origin of the term "redneck."
