I faced foreclosure a few years ago, only the mortgage company that had bought my mortgage was trying to claim our entire 80 acre parcel, instead of the house and five acres that the mortgage was on. The original company that had refinanced our mortgage would not do a mortgage on more than that, so the additional 75 acres were free and clear and ours. We had subsequently sold 15 acres to a neighbor, so... the foreclosure factory out of Orlando was claiming not only our free and clear land, but land that belonged to someone else.
I represented myself in the hearing, coming armed with all my paperwork and plats. The judge -- a circuit judge -- became really pissed that the foreclosure attorney (attending via phone) kept insisting their claim was the entire 80 acres, despite all of my paperwork ( ... )

Working for years for attorneys taught me that simple rule. Most of my time, BTW, was working for a firm specializing in representing banks on foreclosures. It was interesting.
