Better alternative would have been to take the money spent on TARP and spend it on a massive Federal public works program to rebuild infrastructure. Not just a few shovel-ready projects, but a multi-year program to repair the damage cause by a couple of decades of Republicans gutting needed domestic spending to fund their tax cuts for the rich, and a massive welfare program for the rich called the military-industrial complex.
