That was my first thought, yesterday. I'll bet he's got a severance clause in his contract, so he gets paid the remainder of his contract money even if you fire him for being a useless douchebag. Only difference is he no longer has to work for it.
When will these people learn how to do this properly? If an executive is useless, but has a severance clause in his contract, you do NOT fire him! You force him to work out the remainder of his contract as a janitor or a mail room lackey, and see how long it takes him to quit.
