that's how you know he loves you...

Giselle awoke to the sound of birds chirping, feeling...well, feeling unwell. She had more or less adjusted to the fact that she would not always feel contentment in this world, but she had never quite felt anything like this before. It wasn’t anger, or sadness, but it was still just not a good feeling at all. It was almost as though she were too ( Read more... )

"There aren't any magic wishing wells," Robert said, eyes still closed. He'd been in court, trying to make some headway with a particularly nasty alimony settlement, when he'd felt dizzy enough to sit down. Only, sitting hadn't really happened and it'd become falling instead. He'd gotten a recess, by virtue of getting blood on the courtroom floor, and now he was just waiting on someone to pick him up and take him to Giselle.

"Giselle, are you here or have I lost my mind along with my lungs?"

"Robert?" Giselle asked, brightening slightly as she walked toward him. "Oh, thank goodness." If she had to be lost, at least she was lost with Robert. "There are no wishing wells, but I'm certain there's some sort of magic at work. What is this place?"

"I honestly have no idea," Robert said, shaking his head to clear it. "I was in court, Giselle, and then I wasn't. I was under the impression that the wishing wells actually involved wells."

"I didn't mean it literally," Giselle said. "It was just one of those-what are they called again? Oh-figures of speech!" Her happiness at remembering that was rudely interrupted by a very loud, rather painful cough. "Oh my. I don't feel...good, Robert. What do you call this feeling?"

Chase doesn't so much as glance up from the next chart (sooner or later, he'll learn to refuse when House wrangles him into doing clinic hours), gently chiding, "Zelda, honey, you know you're not supposed to leave the bed. Once I'm finished here, I'll join you for lunch." He pauses, raising his head. "Wait, wishing well? What--"

Turning, Chase flushes. "Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were someone-- are you all right?"

"I don't think so," Giselle said uncertainly. "My name is Giselle, though Zelda is a lovely name. What is yours?" she added. "I was just in bed a second ago and now I'm...not. Something like this has happened before, of course, but last time there was an evil stepmother and wishing well involved, and I'd rather not have to fight another dragon, especially when I feel like I do." She sighed. "Can you tell me what this place is? It's like nothing I've ever seen before."

"No more dragons," Chase says quickly. "We've done that, I'm tired of fire-breathing beasts on the roof." He blinks, setting the chart aside before slowly stepping toward Giselle. "I'm Dr. Chase. And you are... very familiar." Shaking his head, he continues, "No evil stepmothers here, I promise. This is a hospital. We heal people here."

"You're healers?" Giselle asked, smiling. "Oh, good. I'm afraid I haven't been feeling very well, and Robert says that means I'm sick. He knows these things, you know. We didn't have feelings like that back in Andalasia," she said. "I think he's sick too."
