I have got nothing here but incoherence and sadness and flailing at how awful Harry is. This is how he punishes people for what he perceives as getting what they want, isn't it? He couldn't have anyone he really wanted, he couldn't have a relationship that was about something other than winning, and so he just stamps on whoever's beaten him--

That is pretty much how Hal rolls, yes. He just got MORE AND MORE AWFUL as I wrote this! Which is probably why I compared him to Beaufort. HE COMPLETELY DESERVES IT.

You know how much I love this fic and want to give Edward copious hugs and tea.

Also, HAL IS A DICK.

But that is neither here nor there. I love how you've characterisedhim here; he's utterly creepy and horrible, and yet there's this hint under the surface that Edward I think can see but doesn't want to acknowledge that Hal is running away as much as he refuses to admit to it.

This in particular: It was like he had no personality of his own but rather took on the form of the dead to unsettle the living.

That is SO HAL.

Lastly, I clearly need to write young!Richard having vaguely unsettling memories of Hal, don't I?

Oh, absolutely, yes. I did that quite deliberately, because Hal is completely awful, but one of the things that makes him so awful is that he's completely angry about the past. And of course that gets you absolutely nowhere, so he has just become a total asshole instead.

Also, you TOTALLY need to write that.

You know how much love I have for Edward in this - I agree with everything said about Hal above, but Edward's ability to endure everything that happens to other people and still keep himself intact is absolutely amazing.

he supposed I can't stand your presence for another minute counted, if barely, as business, of a kind.

SO SAY WE ALL.

Thank you!

I am sort of boggled at myself for managing to make Richard/Aumerle EVEN MORE ANGSTY than Richard/Henry EVEN WITH the DEPOSING AND KILLING.

Then again, I haven't written any Richard/Henry for a while (except in the academic!AU, where it's slightly less horrible-death-filled). Possibly I should take that as a challenge. ;)
