    Now that I'm finally leaving the portion of my life where I get money for making it to another birthday or passing a grade, I'd like to mourn the fact that I never learned how to appropriately react to getting money from relatives. Gifts are easy, because it's something nice and you can just tell the person thanks for thinking of you, you love

I tend to say "Thank you for your generous gift."

That's probably the best strategy. Most important is that I get on it soon.
