Personal Statement Advice, see Bad

I'm down at the Library (key clacking echoing and probably annoying the hell out of the person at the table with me who appears to be drafting a paper by hand) trying to get some advice to improve my personal statement. YOu could write an essay about wacky crazy things you haven't done and then end it with a discussion about how it would have been great if you had done all tehse things, but you worked in teh real world and realized that you wanted to return to your studies...

Nah... Too college admissions-y. If I were going for English I might give it a shot, but my worry is not coming across as being serious, so I have to buckle down.

Oh man! I forgot about that-- and we have to get that done this summer if we want the full drama of me leaving the country as soon as the divorce is final.

Got it-- I've been going in that direction (with the statement of purpose demanding that I write about how I've prepared for an advanced degree and what I'd do with one) and that sounds like good stuff for making the personal statement actually worth reading.
