My father being essentially absent, his participation is irrelevant. But my mother wouldn't ever discuss such things, and I was raised not to, ever. Makes life interesting now. I try, but there are still things I simply cannot discuss. I am amazed how deeply my mother's puritanism has written in my mind, sometimes, because it's not like she ever said anything, but rather that she never did. I can do lots of things she never would, like be comfortable waking around undressed, but I have a few barriers I have never been able to breach.
Mmm. And for talking to the kid, I am starting to try and I find he's horrified. So I get him on long drives when he's a captive audience and doesn't have to /look/ at me.
