There is masses to watch on Youtube. Don't know why the dance never grew more over here. Perhaps it did and I just don't know where ( quite possible). I used to go to Heaven late 80s when it was pretty high profile. Once wept while I was tripping as I watched a skinny little black kid moving magnificently on a podium. Ah..youth misspent.
Now I just went to read the blog and see you have loads of videos (of course). Infuriatingly I'm down here in Brighton and the laptop's sound is screwed. But when I get back to London later I'll be watching them all. Particularly the House of Ninja performing. With the little kid! I collect Bboy battle footage and always wished the gay scene had developed a mix of that and Voguing. Both so exciting to watch and empowering, as you say, for those doing it. There was a really comprehensive feature on all the Houses of the time in, I think, Details magazine. Photos and article on each and successfully showing each House's differing styles. Kept it for years but can't find it now. Hope we get photos of the event. Colour me envious.
