Why Still, Life, with Modifications
You wouldn't think a Portrait could somehow come more alive than a living character. But bohemianspirit manages this, and so much more. She's caught the bittersweet duality of portrait magic-- the subject is not, technically, alive, just a copy. But this copy is capable of growth, and of coming to terms with his life and death and his "still, life" (Great double entrendre, there, by the way) in a way that few living men would be.
I highly recommend the other stories in this series too, slotting Snape into canon and allowing him to have a thoroughly plausible life hidden from Harry and the Wizarding world. But this one speaks eloquently even to those who don't like OFC pairings-- she is definitely Not a Mary Sue. And this Snape is well worth a reader's time. So go read. You will not be sorry.
I don't believe in Perfect scores, but this one comes awfully damned close.
