I don't post in this thing often enough, so here are a few atypical things that have happened to me in the past week.
-Came into work Wednesday afternoon, and when I went up to the floor where only us building employees can go to change into my uniform I found two of the building engineers pulling on Nomex firesuits. Balaclavas, gloves, face shields

So did you ever get the story on that or did engineers quickly slam the door like they would have if it were a movie?
she called me "an angel."
Maybe you are, TN, maybe you are.
Took my mom to see some of the tourist sights. It was a new experience for me. You don't really go to the tourist attractions in your own town.
So true. My husband and I spent a few weekends this summer seeing some museums and sights around Baltimore that we've never been to. I've had people who don't live anywhere near here tell me what a great city this is because they've been to places here that I haven't.
Science Fiction Museum
That sounds cool. What kinds of exhibits did it have? Anything interesting?

We exchanged a few snarky remarks, but eventually I got out of them that they were going to work on some particular bit of machinary and liked to suit up just in case it blew up in their faces.

A lot, actually. They have the original Death Star model. It's the size of a large beach ball and has all these little pinholes in it so that when you put a light inside it it looks liek it has millions of little windows. Robbie the Robot and the Lost in Space robot were sharing a display case, and they were both lighting up and arguing with each other. There's a T-800 Terminator endoskeleton, too.

Oh that sci-fi museum sounds very fun indeed! I've seen a T-800 endo before at a Planet Hollywood. Movie/TV props can be so cheesy when you actually see them, but that endoskeleton was quite impressive. I also sat on Arnold's motorcycle from T2 there (you weren't supposed to, but I did anyway).
I think the only other really cool sci-fi things I've seen were the Close Encounters spacecraft model (it's got fun things built into it that you can't see on screen, such as an R2-D2 action figure). And several years ago there was a Star Trek exhibit at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washinton DC. That was totally cool, but speaking of cheesy props... the phasers looked so incredibly fake and silly close up.

I forgot to mention that they had a Scarren head from Farscape. For some reason that pleased me greatly.

Phasers just are silly. It's a weapon with no sights or aiming system of any kind that you have to hold with your wrist at a weird angle and your thumb in an awkward place. TNG's designs are oh so fun to look at but have terrible ergonomics.
