Progress!

May 27, 2015 20:00

I was a little bit horrified the other day to realise I last updated The Soul Lies Down on November 3rd, ie nearly 7 months ago, and that I posted Chapter 1 a year ago today. Whuuuut D: As I mentioned last week, I've finally started working on the next chapter, but still, that was a bit of a boot up the arse. Anyway, today has been a pretty ( Read more... )

Yay, progress! *celebrates*

The part I constantly struggle with, in writing Edge of Sorrow (which switches between third-person POVs), is in choosing the right narrator for a chapter. There was a convo between Giles and Spike, that I wrote in Spike's POV and wasn't happy with it no matter what I did. It wasn't until I switched to Giles' POV that it "worked". What I meant to say was...sympathy? :)

And lots of sympathy for the IVF.

Yeah, when you have the option of using more than one PoV character it can be tricky. When I started Soul I never intended for anyone but Dawn to speak, but then Spike insisted on having his say, and then it just seemed right that Buffy should speak too. And now I'm off piste without a plan! Woohoo! I still remember the days when I couldn't write a story from more than one POV *nostalgic sigh* It was a simpler time.

I'm all a quiver.

Is it time for me to re-read?

omg I love you :) The chapter is going off to beta this evening, and I think we can assume they'll need the weekend, so I'm not imagining posting until Monday at the earliest. So... maybe? ;)

Good passage indeed. I always found Spike and Dawn's friendship so poignant, on the show itself but even more in the various iterations of where it could go in fic.

It's definitely my favourite platonic relationship. Dawn is a baby in this fic so far, and I kind of miss them having proper interaction tbh, but Spike getting all twisted up over love never gets old ;)

And now I have to read the other chapters! Sounds good Moonie, looking forward to it.

Yay :) No one likes an unfinished WIP, but I'll get there eventually *g*

If I'm going to be honest Moony, I'm the kind of person that actually waits for the update depending on who the author is. Yours I have no trouble waiting, because I know I'll be getting something of quality and worth the wait.

Some authors just, well, update just because and the story goes south.

Thanks :') I hope my other readers feel the same way, it's been such a long wait.

I don't think a single fanfic author I read has managed a wait as long as my (so far) longest book wait. Katherine Kurtz holds what I hope to god is my lifetime record at 1986 to 2000. And it was a long enough bloody wait that the odds of an author topping it are LOW. (I don't know what GRRM fans bitch about, entitled little whiners :P.)

And well, one of the nice things about being ADD is I wind up forgetting serial format stories. So new chapters are an excuse to reread :D. Saves all sorts of trouble with finding new things to read!

When you read fast, you learn very quickly that NO author can keep up. None. Not even a dozen can. So either you get accustomed to waiting, or you give up the reading addiction. And giving up reading is just crazy talk. No one does that!

I'm not sure what a reasonable writing camp pledge would be. I'll have to think. Thinking hard.
