I’m deleting my tumblr account in the near future. I’ve had enough. Not only is it a massive time sink (and creepily reminiscent of an adolescent popularity contest, if I'm being honest), it’s just chock full of stuff that I don’t want to see. Yeah, I reached my limit. I'll miss the hanging-out-with-friends-aspect, but tbh not really anything else.

TBH, I rather agree with you (in particular about the popularity contest bit). I haven't deleted my account but at this point I almost only use the thing for liveblogging about books and shows I'm watching, and to see some pretty art. I am not really interested in using it as a way to engage with fandom anymore, especially after a few situations that really made me cringe.

Yeah I don't know what it is, but this thanking people for following you really gets on my nerves. People seem to treat it as some personal approval rating. Like, my worth as a human being should be determined by how many people have a passing interest in my half-sane witterings and the memes I re-blog? Oooooookay.

I will miss the art, and some of the meta, but not enough to deal with the rest of it.

(And on a completely different topic, but just because I have you here - I sent you a pm recently about my novel-critting community, but you never replied. Did you receive it?)

Yeah, I did the thanks for following this for a bit but after a while it just seemed silly and I stopped. I really do prefer a discussion-based format or community format.

I'm honestly grateful that I'm ancient in fandom years, because the whole tumblr thing just passed me right on by. It looks like a whole lot of drama from my casual observations.

Is this where I tell folks to get off my lawn? :-P

I'm new to sansan fandom but sansa_sandor is honestly one of the best lj comms that I've ever been a part of (and July was my ten year LJ anniversary) so that's been a lot of comms.

Yeah, I'm coming up to my 8 year LJ anniversary, and I was on mailing lists before that, so I've been around the fannish block. I figured I would try tumblr out as a large part of the fandom seemed to be on there, but you know what? Its format just encourages impulsiveness. People insta-blog without giving much thought to the consequences of their actions, and unsurprisingly things have just gone belly up in rather spectacular fashion.

sansa_sandor is honestly one of the best lj comms that I've ever been a part of

I'm so glad to hear you say that, thank you! Modding it so closely is time-consuming, but it's been worth it to maintain the atmosphere that I want, and also the level of activity and fun. It's been an interesting project that's for sure :) but the fact that people enjoy it and get something out of it is always wonderful to hear.

I just joined Tumblr about a month ago (and I don't really know what I'm doing, I just like stuff and reblog it) I thought it would be like here...but I was wrong. I still like looking at the art, etc. but I came on to Tumblr right before the whole...mess, for lack of a better word, and that really put a bad taste in my mouth. I actually unfollowed (so I know how to do three things on there if you count this!) a couple people I had just started following because it is not at all what I'm looking for when I want to relax and fangirl SQUEE in the evenings.

I've only been on LJ a few months, but I really really enjoy my time on here and feel like I know some of you at least a bit. I have never been a part of anything like this before and I am enjoying it very much :)

(BTW I'm fairly certain yhis is the longest post I've ever written without the words "fuck" or "cock" in it.)

Yeah, mess is the right word. I'm glad you're enjoying your LJ experience, though. LJ really is my natural home - much easier to actually debate things or have a conversation.
