Did you happen to catch the BBC adaption with Romola Garai?

Also, what does meta mean? I thought it had to do with being self-referential. But that doesn't seem to fit in with the context of your sentence.

I'm definitely ordering this off of kindle based on your recommendation!

Ah yes I did! Romola Garai was the reason that I watched it in the first place (did you see her in Emma?), and the show was the reason I bought the book. It was actually a very faithful adaptation (i.e. the ending is just as punch-in-the-gut amazing), but the book is just... wow, so much more detail.

Yes, I meant it like self-referential -- the way in which the narration is written, it's almost like... Well, ok, part of Sugar's role within the story is the role of the seductress, with William, Agnes and Sophie, but the book also speaks to the reader as a seductress, luring you in, and so the narrator draws from Sugar's role, and Sugar's role is enhanced by the narrator's "voice". In my head, it's like a mobius strip!

Glad to hear you're ordering it. Hope you come back and tell me what you thought :)

Hey Moonmoth i hace just read your thoughts about this book and you certainly made me want to buy it, not just watch the adaptación. This sort of 19th century setting is really compelling. I adore Dickens and Thackeray, yet they only wrote about a certain aspect of Victorian days while this book is a sort of breath of fresa air in the sense that it shows the hard reality people lived back then and was at the time unspeakable.... :)

More a breath of very stale, rather smelly air, but I get your point ;D It really is a fantastic read - let me know if you get it :)
