+ Gaius heard the mandrake screaming. Shit, I missed that. Did he really? That means he has magic, right? Hopefully the writers will go somewhere meaningful with that. Could be really interesting.
When Merlin threw it in the fire, Gaius was bending down to see to Uther, but his head definitely jerked towards the sounds of the screaming. They've been flirting around exactly what Gaius can and can't do since season 1, but this seems pretty strong evidence to me that he has a natural magical talent.
Interesting thinky thoughts - I pretty much agree with all of them.
I love the idea that Arthur does know about Merlin and is hoping to encourage Merlin to confide/provoke him into performing magic. I definitely think BJ plays it so that this interpretation is valid. (Alas, I have very little faith in Shine and suspect that Arthur is clueless and the Merlin/Arthur comedy show is purely there for lols.)
If I had magic I would definitely leave Camelot and go and live in Cenred's kingdom. I hope we see more of him. (And Morgause.)
I totally failed to pick up that Gaius had heard the mandrake. So he has some magic in him as well as what he has learned - that does imply a genetic compenent to magic.
